Whore of Babylon (blog)

So, if you didn't know, I'm a little bit fascinated with the “evil” and especially sexual characters within religious texts. There is something that I find ultra interesting and especially devious about characters who were thought to be so salacious that they have made it into historical literature. And when it's religious literature... it's especially fun.

There is one character, or idea, that is particularly exciting. The “Whore of Babylon” which is, in fact, not really a single character, but an idea of the mother of all whores. A culmination of the ultimate “idoltress.” Of course, the title “Whore of Babylon” is shorthand for the full title... "Babylon the Great, the Mother of Prostitutes and Abominations of the Earth." How awesome is that?

Here is an 1800s Russian engraving of the Whore of Babylon riding the seven headed beast. Bad. Ass. Altough, shouldn't the beast have six heads, to make it even more ominous? I don't know... who am I to judge the mother of all whores riding the seven headed beast?
